As a young boy growing up in Borlesti, a village in Northwest Romania, Ion was influenced by the simplicity of rural life as well as the artisans in the local studios. The beautiful sunflowers and acacia trees of Transylvania were as much a part of his childhood as the mines and factories of pre-revolutionary Romania. This combination of traditionalism and modernism is evident in Ion's works of today; inspired by the old ways, he breaks through this realm into a new and ever innovative world of glass art.
Ion Tamaian graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Ion is inspired by everyday life, creating both abstract and functional works of art which highlight almost any décor. His one-of-a-kind works usually foretell the next line of collection -- whether it be human figures, seascapes, or echoes of rhapsodies in history. The artist's unique creations are in a class of their own.
